DDGS

DDGS

DDGS (Dried Distillers Grains with Solubles) is the meal remaining after corn is processed for ethanol production. It contains the residual fractions of the grain following yeast fermentation into ethanol and serves as a protein-rich raw material. Approximately 90% of DDGS is derived from corn.

Corn DDGS contains high levels of energy and moderate amounts of protein, making it a nutritionally rich feed ingredient. It is well digested by cattle and has a positive impact on milk production in dairy cows.

DDGS is a valuable feed ingredient for livestock. For ruminants, it offers high palatability and provides highly digestible cellulose, phosphorus, low starch levels, B vitamins, and a significant amount of bypass protein. It serves as an excellent protein source in dairy cow nutrition. Due to its favorable nutritional properties, DDGS is also highly suitable for poultry.

Rations containing DDGS support milk production at levels comparable to those containing soybean meal as a protein source. DDGS is also a good energy source for dairy cows and provides more energy than corn.

DDGS is also notable for not containing anti-nutritional factors commonly found in many plant-based protein sources.
Corn-derived DDGS typically contains:
Crude Protein: 22–37%
Crude Fat: 3–15%
Crude Ash: 2–5%
Crude Fiber: 5–11%, Starch: Low, approximately 4–9%.
